The New York City Series
New York City offers some unique and distinct qualities, not seen in any other cityscape, that come together in one place. I try to view New York from many perspectives; as a result, my paintings depict the city from many angles and locations. You cannot look at New York from just the street level; it is a city above and below ground. Each painting examines the people and the culture and the beauty of a city always in motion.
The colors and designs in my paintings contradict the notion that New York is a grey city of steel and stone. In fact, it's alive, vibrant and full of vitality and constantly evolving, every minute of every day. The time I spent living there and my regular pilgrimages to the city fuel my enthusiasm and keep my inspiration alive and fresh.
My photos and sketches are the basis of most of my paintings; however, they are only a guide. I try, with bold colors, brush strokes and textures, to get viewers excited by what they see. By design, each painting in this series tells a story. Hopefully, every time you study one of these works, you will discover something new that deepens your interest and understanding of the composition. Through this process, the painting comes to have a personal meaning.
