Abstract
and Representational artist Oil on canvas
I
have been painting since the early 1960’s. In matters of style and
productivity, I feel the years from 1975 onward have yielded my
greatest personal satisfaction and growth in creative maturity. My
artistic style has developed into big, bold images, filled with vivid
color. Much of my work focuses on hard-edged geometric subjects and the
division of space into contrasting colors that attempts to suggest
pictures within pictures.
My canvasses are more representational
imagery of an abstract nature. Although my main focus has been on
abstract art, I continue to paint traditional subject matter as well. I
try to offer an original view from my own perspective.I believe that my
gift is allowing the viewer to see traditional subject matter in an
unconventional way. The Musician Series is my personal view of the
greatest jazz musicians of all time.
I have been active as an
artist both in New England and on the West Coast. From 1976 – 1980, I
participated in the San Diego, California art community before I
returned to the East Coast. In March 1984, I had my first one-man
commercial show in the East, held at the Premier Image Gallery of
Ashland, Massachusetts. My work is part of many private collections
across the country and has won awards for artistic merit. I have also
completed several large scale works by commission in Massachusetts and
in California.
My professional affiliations include past
memberships in the La Jolla Art Association and the San Diego Art
Museum. As a first year member of the La Jolla Art Association,I was
given a one-man show, considered at the time to be “a very unusual
honor.” In eastern Massachusetts, I exhibited at numerous locations,
such as award and juried shows hosted by art associations, banks,
libraries and other public institutions.
A native of
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, I was trained formally as a commercial
artist during my early years. My evolution as a painter however was
largely self-taught. I am an art scholar, and have acquired a depth of
knowledge in art history and the development of contemporary, fine and
abstract art.
I have currently completed a series of works
dedicated to capture the color and vitality of the the City of New York
and Central Park, from 2005 to the present.
In my new series,
"Old Antique Car Hoods". I again embrace the bold, vibrant, geometric
designs used by other artist of the cubist era. Although the ideas are
from the past, the vivid colors and designs bring a new perspective and
propel this new series into the 21st century.
